Cricket Bat-ball Impact Mechanics: A Review

Abstract Cricket is a spectacular sport with over two billion spectators around the world. It is a very popular game in South Asia, Australia and Commonwealth countries. Despite its fame and popularity, the advances related to mechanics, materials and manufacturing technology of cricket are quite marginal. This paper presents a review of cricket research conducted over the past two centuries. Cricket is a ball bat sport in which the prime objective for the batsman is to hit the ball out of the ground. Collision and impact mechanics of the cricket bat and ball governs the engineering mechanics which has to be studied for proper understanding of the game and to augment the sport performance in terms of reliability, safety and entertainment
